Summary
In Brooklyn, amid drug cases, violence, casual racism, poverty, housing projects, and corrupt cops, we follow three officers: Tango, African-American, working undercover, believing that won promotion to a desk job, but says he has to put in the bust of a former inmate who saved his life; Sal, who will commit murder to get the money to buy a house big enough for his family; and Eddie, the oldest cop of the enclosure, a week before retirement, assigned to supervise a serious rookie. Can this end well for one of the three?Synopsis
The film opens with Sal (Ethan Hawke), a cop talk to Carlo (Vincent D'Onofiro) about a traffic stop in which Carlo was arrested for impaired driving. Carlo says Sal he was in a bar fight and thought that people in the bar were going to kill him. He left intoxicated and was arrested. Carlo further explains that when in front of a judge, he explained the situation to him, and the refutation of the judge of his statement there was "more just" and "deceives". He was right to leave the bar in a hurry, but it was wrong to impaired driving. Sal laugh with Carlo and then ... Bang! Sal shoots him in the face. It reacts to the body of Carlo, vomiting near to its action. Sal grabs a bloody paper bag filled with money, and leaves.We then see Eddie Dugan, a cop on the verge of retirement and suicide to wake up. He pours a glass of whiskey for himself, and puts a curb service revolver in his mouth and pulls the trigger. He continues with his daily routine to prepare. We then see new images of a shooting in the Brooklyn projects of houses of a mother mourning the death of his young son, who was killed by a policeman.
After seeing this, we are introduced to Tango (Don Cheadle), an undercover cop who infiltrated a major drug ring in Brooklyn. He met with Red, a gangster friend and C-Rayz, another gangster. The three are in a crack den and drug operation located in one of the apartments in the projects. Tango looks outside the windows to see the place crawling with police because of the boy killed.
Sal is in the confession, the confession of the murder he committed, saying that it was justified because he was a bad guy, but he was also for the money he stole from him. The priest said that we are all imperfect creatures and we must pray for God's forgiveness. Sal exclaims: "I do not want God's forgiveness. I want his fucking help. "The priest is taken aback and Sal apologized for his language and attitude before saying a Hail Mary to repent of his sin. He storms out of the church . Sal then goes to the chamber punch in for work, where he sees Ronny (Brian F. O'Byrne), his best friend. Ronny and Sal, with others in the Narc team are realized by Captain about Brooklyn and how he was crowned the number one area of crime in the state. Sal and Sal Ronny conversation when asked about Carlo. Ronny said they found him dead. Sal, casually, asked whether they have leads.
Eddie is in the dressing room, preparing to march to the beat when two police officers, both mean to him, confront him and make fun of him. Eddie laughed off because he cares more not because he is retired. A cop confronts Eddie, rather violently, but is retained by the other. Eddie delimits another day in the calendar. Eddie is told by his commander that he needs to break a couple recruits during his last days on the job. Eddie takes, reluctantly, saying he was only a few more days on the job. The CO told him to do something good with the last two hours on the job.
Tango meets with UC contacts, Bill Hobart (Will Patton) at a restaurant. Tango wants his life back with his wife, who has already signed the divorce papers. Bill said he is working on it. Tango said the bill he is too deep. During a traffic stop in which Tango was arrested, he felt the need to kill the cop because Red was wearing a gun and drugs on him. But he did not and was let go because of who he is. Tango again, said the bill, he needs his life back.
Eddie goes with a recruit around Brooklyn projects. Rookie, Melvin, is eager to tell his life story Eddie, but Eddie could careless. Eddie stopped by a store to pick up a fishing rod because his plan is to go live in Connecticut after he retires and fish. Rookie sees a woman being slapped by a man and trying to stop it when Eddie comes, saying that it is not in their district. Melvin becomes edgy and more zealous about it and will not talk to Eddie more.
Tango tries to call his wife, but considers that there is not there to pick up. He sees his car ticket counter by the woman's room and throws a glass bottle in the basket meter maid is the driver and told him to get a real job.
Sal comes home to his four children and his pregnant wife, Angie. He told his children that they get a new home and all. Sal goes to the basement to see that he spoke too soon when searching Carlo did not have any money, only half. He hides the money and wash the blood off his hands. Angela and Sal talk about their new home Sal aligned. Angela is pregnant with twins and asthma. The wooden mold in the house is slowly her and the twins, prompting Sal for the new house kills. He calls the sales agent that manages the house and says he has the money to make the down payment.
Tango came to a club where he sees his old friend Caz (Wesley Snipes). Caz and Tango hug and talking on a roof on the business and how Caz wants to return to the company after being jailed for 7 years. Tango, after nearly being killed in prison, where he was covered for two years, was saved by Caz, which explains their friendship.
Eddie is in Chinatown, seeing a prostitute named Chantel. Eddie is on the outside, approaching the building to see a thug get a drugged prostitute in a car. The Thug like Eddie and then moves to the car. Eddie, knowing something fishy was going on, continues in the building. He has sex with the prostitute and is located in a table below. Chantel talking to Eddie of his life and decides to give him oral sex while he tells her about his life and how he is depressed.
Sal prays with her children and reflects how prayer before his children sleep assigns it to the base. He knows he needs this new home.
We then reduced to the apartment of the house where the crack Randy, a drug dealer teen, leaves the apartment. Sal and a group of officers Narc catch him and tell him to show. They do it and the apartment was searched. Sal looks like the whole apartment for the money and saw a man running from the building. He follows and catches only to discover it is clean and just ran because he was scared. Sal let him go.
Tango meeting with Bill and responds Smith (Ellen Barkin), a ruthless bitch to police chief. She tells him that they need Caz in jail in defiance of Tango, and he knows he should do. She promises him that if Caz is set aside and Tango becomes Detective First Grade. Tango agrees and then leaves.
Sal playing poker with his friends in his basement. Ronny and Sal talk about taking money for drugs. While Ronny said he would never, Sal says he does not care because it is not going anywhere, but the evidence room. Ronny said he Sal bullshit but does not answer it. One of the cops made a racist comment he and Sal hits him. The cop said he would take a bullet for Sal and asked why he did this. Sal and Ronny speak, both trying to calm down. Sal says he has no money for the twins and Ronny said he is blessed and he and his wife can not have children.
An interception sequence starts between the three cops.
Eddie is riding with a new recruit and sees Melvin disappeared with another cop together.
Tango and Caz Red meet on the roof to see they were fighting Randy for information on the bust.
Sal and Ronny are in hospital with Angie and it is said that one twin is in danger because of the wooden mold. Sal and Ronny leave the hospital to go on another raid.
Eddie and The Rookie meet a shoplifting call, which is an escalation between the suspect (an old boy of 15 years) and the victim.
Red beats the hell out of Randy for information and threatens to burn the eyes with a cigarette. Caz stops.
Sal enters a convenience store with the Narc team to make a drug bust.
Eddie leaves the store to perform identifications on both the suspect and the victim. Of course, The Rookie loses control of the situation and tries to subdue him, but accidentally shoots out two rounds inches from his face.
Sal and Ronny bust of the den of drugs and in the midst of violence, Sal saves Ronny life while trying to steal drug money for himself.
Caz says Red Randy let go. Red Tango questions when he tries to defuse the situation, but Tango pistol whips him and told him to back up or it will be thrown from the roof.
Eddie is in the internal affairs of the shooting and was invited to say it was a drug-related incident to the speaker look better. He refused and told them to "fuck". They can not legally do anything because he is retired.
Sal, hear a voice message on his phone is informed that the real estate office has put the house on the market and can not wait another day. Ronny him and thank him approach. But Sal says he was he thinking twice, he would not lift a finger to stop him and thanking him.
Tango is on the docks talking to Caz out of the game. Tango said there are two people to the city he needs to talk about a big deal, after he says Caz should disappear. The two people are plainclothes police and Tango is install it, unbeknownst to Caz. Caz said to do the trick.
Tango, in his apartment, watching a lock box with his gun, badge and photo of his wife in it. It puts a stick in his memory card and instead so he can record the conversation.
At the bar Caz meeting other undercover cops Tango and they do the job. Tango goes to the bathroom and smashes the phone, edgy he did that.
Eddie is the last day and it is in the middle to give up his badge. He takes it and sees that his badge means nothing because it is thrown into a cardboard box with dozens of others.
Tango called Bill and said he was out of the deal and it is out of it. The bill says that does not matter because the Feds are closing in on Caz. Tango leaves his apartment to get him.
Tango is Caz playing chess in the streets and tells him he can not do the trick. Caz is confused by this, but before he can say Tango ... BANG BANG!,!, BANG!, Caz is shot by Red in a drive by shooting. Tango goes to meet with the bill after the shooting, angry to see that the police were all there to just watch Caz sector. Tango screams Smith and his attack after a racist comment. The bill that holds him and said he could have himself screwed Detective. Smith said he has not impressed and should have made him sergeant. Tango said Bill to take his life back but he knows he can not.
Eddie met Chantel to see her with a "customer". He waits outside and sees that the "client" was a cop. He moves to his place to see it is clean. She gives him a gold watch and asks him to come to Connecticut with her, but she refused and told him to get out. He does, hurt. He's sitting in his car, load his gun with one bullet and then ...
Eddie sees the new Thug, moving three women in a van. Eddie recognizes one of the girls posted as a missing person on the ballot in the enclosure. He follows the truck.
Tango is preparing to make an attack on Red.
Sal gets information for a crack den in the apartment complex where big money is. It takes the information and go with. Ronny follows him and said he should be grateful for what he has, but he does not listen. Sal shoots tire Ronny can not follow him and continue on.
Eddie arrives at the Brooklyn projects to see three women being unloaded from the truck.
Tango gets the Brooklyn projects and moves into the building to see Randy out, waiting on offers and say hello to tango and say that what happened to Caz messed up.
Sal is considered by Randy in the same project of Brooklyn and is confused to see a white cop with a gun in this area.
Tango takes the elevator down.
Sal pray in a separate elevator in the other building.
Eddie is close to the apartment with the girls abducted in it.
The doors of the elevator opened to see Sal leave and go to Apartment 5B, where the money is.
Red, C-Rayz and another Thug stand by the elevator when it opens, Tango fires a round into the chest of draws and Red Thug in the intestine. Red off races. C-Rayz says he has no beef with Tango and told him to "do what you gotta do." Tango follows a trail of blood left by Rouge.
Sal broke into the apartment and kills three Thugs in it and seeking money. He looks at all the apartment and sees the puck and it is not connected. He opens it to find a million in cash. It is money stuffing into each pocket, he then BANG! BANG! BANG! Sal takes a last puff of a cigarette and then falls to the ground, bullet wounds in his chest. He chokes on the blood and then look to see Randy taking the gun. He chokes on blood and dies.
Eddie is close to the apartment with the girls and expected a naked thug to leave the room for a shower.
Tango moves in the streets, gun in hand, following Rouge. Red told him he did not kill Tango and Caz became soft. Tango says he's a cop and that Red should not have killed Caz. Red asks "you gonna gun me in the streets" Tango replies coldly:.!. "Yeah," Tango dump a whole clip in red and charging learn more when BANG Tango is shot in the back He turned and fired again Ronny. Ronny moves the body and sees that he is a cop and yells for someone to call 911.
Ronny enters the apartment 5B to see Sal dead. He cries at the sight of his death, surrounded by the bloody money.
Eddie enters the apartment and frees girls. The half-naked thug tries to stop him, but Eddie handcuffed to the heater on the wall. Kidnapping thug enters the apartment and Eddie shoots him in the chest. The villain does not die and Eddie attacks, throwing him like a rag doll. Eddie pin it against a shelf, when Eddie grabs a cable tie and strangle and locks on the rogue throat, so it suffocates to death.
Exploring the police around the scene, two dead cops and four gangsters. Eddie walks away from the scene, beaten but still alive.
