"The Rum Diaries", whose action is at the end of the fifties, follows the trace of Kemp, young journalist who lands on the island of Puerto Rico. The capital, San Juan, is then taken between nationalist claims, increase castroist is placed side by side and the shady business of the promoters. Kemp works as freelance journalist for San Juan Daily News, a local daily thrown by an ex-communist, whose majority of the journalists spend its time to be drunk or to fight. By dint of small rums, Kemp doesn't hesitate to have the so made numb brain as his colleagues, only awakened every so often by a blow of madness due to suffocating heat.
